In 1826, a Frenchman named Niepce needed pictures for his business. But he was not a good artist. So he invented a very simple camera. He put it in a window of his house and took a picture of his garden. That was the first photo.

The next important date in the history of photography was in 1837. That year, Daguerre, another Frenchman, took a picture of his reading room. He used a new kind of camera in a different way. In his pictures you could see everything very clearly, even the smaller things. This kind of photo was called a Daguerretpye.

Soon, other people began to use Daguerre’s way. Travelers brought back back wonderful photos from all around the world. People took pictures of people and moving things. That was not simple. The photographers had to carry a lot of films and other machines. But this did not stop them. For example, some in the United States worked so hard.

Mathew Brady was a famous American photographer. He took many pictures of great people. The pictures were unusual because they were very lifelike (栩栩如生的).

Photography also became one kind of art at the end of the 19th century. Some photos were not just copies of the real world. They showed ideas and feelings (情感), like other kinds of art.

根据短文内容完成下列各题:

1. The first photo taken by Niepce was a picture of __________.

2. The Daguerreotype was ___________.

3. If a photographer wanted to take pictures of moving things in the year of 1840, he had to __________.

4. Mathew Brady was famous for __________.

There will be more educational programs on the radio or on TV, even on the Internet. So many children who live in faraway (遥远的) villages don’t need to go to school every day. They can study at home. Each family will have a robot. Robots will help people with their housework.

Maybe some people will go to the moon for a holiday and some people can live under the sea in hot summer.

Some people say human being (人类) are not the only animals that have languages. Other animals also “talk” to each other in different ways.

For many years scientists have been making experiments (试验) with animals and they have learned a lot about animals. A bee can tell other bees about food by dances. There are two kinds of dances ---- round dance and tail-wagging dance. If the food is far away, the bee makes the tail wagging dance. Others bees know how far the food is by watching the dance. They also learn what flower they should look for by smelling the dance bee. But they do not know whether the food is high up in the air or low down on the ground. Like bees dolphins, which live in seas, also can tell others about food and other things. Monkeys are clever than bees and dolphins. But scientists find it difficult to teach monkeys to speak like human beings. Sign language, in which words are not spoken, is a better language for monkeys to learn.

We really can not say whether animals can have language or not more experiments have to be done before we can give a clear answer to this question.

New rules and behavior standards (行为规范) for middle school students came out in March.

Who are the most excellent students? The middle school uses a new way to decide them. The best

students won’t only have high marks. They will also be kids who don’t dye (染) their hair, smoke or drink. The following are some of the new rules.

Tell the truth. Have you ever copied someone else’s work on an exam? Don’t do it again. That’s not something an honest student should do. If you have played computer games for two hours in your room, don’t tell your parents you have done your homework.

Do more at school. Good students love animals and care for others. April is Bird-Loving Month in China. Is your school doing anything to celebrate? You should join ! That way, you can learn more about animals and how to protect them. When more people work together, it makes it more fun for everyone. Be open to new ideas. Have you ever thought that people could live on the moon? Maybe you discover Earth someday. Don’t look down on new ideas. Everyone’s ideas are important. 八.任务型阅读(每空一词)

We need to be responsible for our environment. Being a frugal consumer(节俭的消费者) is one way to help. But, what exactly does that mean?

Use It Up

You can use things up instead of wasting them. Squeeze (挤压)that last

bit of toothpaste(牙膏) out of the rube. Use the last little piece of soap. Don’t

throw away any bits of the biscuit at the bottom of the box.

Wear It Out

You do not always need to have new things. Suppose your sneakers

have broken laces(鞋带), but they still fit you. Repair them and wear them

longer. You don’t have to have the latest iPhone until the old one doesn’t

work any more. Then you can get a new one. Think twice before replacing

something that still works.

Make It Do

When something you want is not on hand, look for something else that you already have to take its place. Suppose you are preparing your lunch for tomorrow and want a butter sandwich. However, there is not any butter in your home.Have a cheese sandwich instead so that you can use all of the cheese. With a little thought, you can make something do, instead of buying something new.

Do Without

Think about all those things that you would like to have. Do you really need them? How long will you really play with that new toy? Making a list of thing that you want. Delete the things that you don’t really need, so you can save a lot of resource.

Everyone needs friends. But how do you find real friendship and keep it?

The American writer Sally Seamans tells young students some smart ways to find friends. Sally says founding friendship is just like planting a tree. You plant the seed (种子) and take care of it to make it grow.

First, you should choose a friend. What makes a good friend? It is not because a person has money or good looks. A good friend should be kind and patient. For example, if you have a bad day, a good friend could listen to your complaints (抱怨) and do his or her best to help you. To make a friend, you can’t be too shy. You should make each other happy and share your lives.

But things can not always be happy. Even the best friends have fights. What should you do when you have a fight with your friend? You have to talk to him or her. When there is no one around, have a good talk. If he or she doesn’t want to talk, you can write a letter.

There are three steps to be friends again:

Tell him or her how you are feeling, say what your friend did wrong and talk about why you did this or that. Remember that friendship is one of the most important things in your life.
